Work with a Ph.D., who understands how to pass concepts on to you, is patient but persistent, and explains things until you tell me you get it. I have 18 years' experience tutoring including close to 900 hours with WyzAnt. With WyzAnt I have worked with about 100 different students including 50+ in all areas of ACT/SAT prep. Lewis did a great job with tip and tricks for ACT Science. He is able to access different materials which give a wider learning base. He reviews areas of weakness by accessing these different questions from different books. This is helpful.
- Lara H. from Davis, CA
Lewis is a wonderful Tutor. Lewis has helped my daughter with her APSAT for National Merit Scholarship. He is punctual, trusted, knowledgeable, and kind. My daughter is very happy to study with Lewis.

I have never been good at math. In fact - I've been downright awful at it. So imagine my fear when I discovered after moving to Los Angeles that I had to take a California Basic Skills Test, in order for my credential to be valid. This - after teaching special education for almost twenty years. Sure, the reading and writing were a piece of cake to pass, so shouldn't math be as well - seeing that it is BASIC math? Addition and subtraction? Multiplication and division? Yeah, right...more like Algebra, geometry, and word problems asking you what time Train X arrives at the station after Train B arrives within X+Y=c234 minutes. You know - stuff we use in our everyday lives! Needless to say, I bombed the Math CBEST with a 27 (needed at least a 37 to pass). With a 45-day window to pass the test, before I was about to look at a new career where I ask if you'd like fries with today's meal, Lewis saved my hide. Seven lessons later (and a lot of studying and hard work on my end as well), last week I went from a 27...to a whopping 46! This, coming from a guy who seriously does not even GET math! Lewis not only shows you how to solve these problems, but gives you the confidence you need to pass. He is an expert in passing the CBEST, and his track record proves it. If you need any more convincing from me, please ask Lewis to give you my contact info. Thanks to him, I still have my career - and a knowledge of math I thought I'd never have. By the way - the train arrives 15 minutes later, thanks to C divided by Y...Lewis taught me that!
- Craig K. from Tarzana, CA
Lewis is very patient with his students. He understands and identities what areas students need the most help with. His lesson planning consists of going through each section with his students and spending more in-depth time with the sections students need the most help with.
- Matthew S. from Cupertino, CA
Lewis stepped into help my daughter with AP physics within a day or so of requesting help from Wyzant. He was efficient, knowledgeable and the session write ups were excellent. I would recommend him for AP physics tutoring.
- Sarah T. from Sunol, CA
Mr. Lewis H. is a hard working person who is trying to achieve my son's goals. He gives great tutoring to help my kid to improve how to write good essays, and become efficient in readings where I can see some good end results on my son's school report. What made me impressed is that he gives very detailed reports to the parent on the WyzAnt Tutoring website, which makes me feel that my son is in very good hands.
- Jane P. from San Jose, CA
Lewis has been a fantastic tutor for my son, despite his learning challenges. He is efficient, thoughtful and very thorough. He is able to filter through information in a way that his student can process it and master it. Lewis has an amazing disposition and connected beautifully with my son. He is respectful, caring and kind. I HIGHLY recommend Lewis to any student - he is a genius himself!
- Helda L. from Los Gatos, CA
We just had one session with Lewis and it is clear that he takes genuine interest in his students. I will add more to this review in a few more weeks after more sessions.
- Bhawna C. from Fremont, CA
After 2 study sessions with our son, a few of my observations about Mr. Lewis are described in the review title. There hasn't been any metrics to compare tutoring efficiency and effectiveness, maybe the most important characteristics, so I will leave that assessment to a follow-up review once I have something to compare against. Mr. Lewis is attentive and a good listener because he takes the time to ask the right questions and listens without judging for a meaningful and respectful dialog. This is important especially for teenagers like my son. It creates an open and safe environment for our son to voice his concerns without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. He will usually recap and provide detailed, actionable strategies and plans for moving forward. It's very nice to receive regular and appropriate communication from Mr. Lewis. This is different compared with many other tutors. Some tutors may or may not provide any feedback or canned, feel-good feedback. Mr. Lewis provides both a summary of tutoring session as well as plans for what our son should do next to achieve his goals.
- Pete D. from San Jose, CA
Lewis teaches both Math and English. He is very passionate teacher, and always work with parents feedback. He is also very friendly with students. Seems to understand strength and weakness of the students and works towards excellence.

- Missy L. from Mountain View, CA
Lewis seems to have great knowledge on how to crack the ACT and we feel confident that he will help our child secure a good score on the ACTs.

Studying for the ACT and SAT can be very overwhelming on your own with those huge books! Studying for them can be easily postponed or forgotten about as you already have so many essays, tests, and projects during your junior year. Having the appointments scheduled with Lewis kept me accountable for getting my work done. Lewis kept me right on track, motivating and guiding me through each area that I struggled with. Lewis taught me so many tricks around very difficult math problems and well as ways to tackle the reading passages. Before every meeting Lewis came prepared with a stack of worksheets for the area that I was struggling with. These worksheets had wonderful explanations and were much easier to work through than the huge practice books that I bought. The amount and variety of resources that Lewis has including his tips on essays, writing/reading drills, drills on math tricks, drills on idioms, and so much more all kept the sessions interesting and engaging. Junior year of high school is quite hectic and rather busy so I often had to cancel or reschedule my sessions on short notice. Lewis was so understanding with my crazy schedule. I cannot give enough positive feedback about Lewis. You would be LUCKY to have the pleasure of working with him.
- Julia A. from San Jose, CA
Lewis helped my son learn how to write better essays for the SAT. He also helped him with tricks for reducing the time on each question in the math section of the SAT.
- Boyd F. from Sunnyvale, CA
Lewis is helping my sons with their English language needs. He understands their needs and then plans for the same. For example, he knows exactly how many hours of tutoring is needed for a SAT English preparation or review. Then he executes on that plan. His holistic approach on the tutoring helps the students. I see my son doing better with his test prep needs with Lewis's help/training.
- Maruthi N. from Fremont, CA
Lewis tutored our son for reading and writing for the SAT and did a great job. Our son found the sessions very helpful in preparing him for the test. Lewis is now preparing our son for the ACT and he is keeping him motivated and on track.
- Mechelle T. from Saratoga, CA
Lewis is currently helping my 8th grader who has some processing delays. He is extremely patient and provides encouragement along the way, which is really important. He asks for feedback and input, but since I don't really have a whole lot of insight to offer other than the fact that my son dislikes school and that I am really disappointed with how little 8 years of special education assistance has accomplished thus far, Lewis has developed and implemented his own plan where he is assessing and providing custom content for my son, which I am grateful for. He is very understanding and flexible when I have to adjust sessions at the last minute (due to family emergencies and such). He is genuinely concerned about my son and I believe him when he says he loves to tutor and would do it for free if it weren't for the fact that he has to eat!
- Erika C. from Milpitas, CA
Lewis is a great tutor he's been working really hard with me on reading skills and math. He is very nice, patient and willing to travel to help me. I am not good at math, but thanks to Lewis I've improved on my last math test. I'm also improving on my vocabulary as well. Thank you Lewis!
