Job Description
We are a fast-paced and growing café and catering operation looking for a head chef.

Head Chef Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee entire kitchen operations and ensure efficient work

Collaborate with the front of house manager(s) and owners to align kitchen operations with the overarching goals of the establishment and its locations

Develop and monitor food and labor budgets

Create and document new recipes and plan menus, including daily and weekly specials, making adjustments as needed based on the availability of ingredients

Help to determine pricing for menu items

Direct and design plating/presentation techniques for all dishes

Hire and train new kitchen staff

Develop and maintain proper staffing levels for maximum productivity and profitability

Assign tasks and supervise back of house in the preparation and presentation of food

Ensure proper cooking/cutting techniques are being used to prevent injuries

Resolve issues as they arise so that customers continue to receive their orders in a timely manner

Order and arrange pickup or delivery of ingredients and supplies

Track, record, and maintain inventory stock including foods, beverages, and kitchen supplies

Make sure that all kitchen and front of house staff(s) adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations to ensure a clean and sanitary kitchen and workspace and abide by all state food safety/sanitation laws.

Develop and maintain vendor relationships and work with vendors to ensure quality products are received

Maintain kitchen equipment; schedule repairs and additional maintenance as needed

Research and implement new culinary trends

Participate in media and public relations events to help promote the business


Head Chef Requirements and Qualifications

Significant experience as a head chef, sous chef, or chef de cuisine

3+ year experience in a back-of-house management position

Expert skills and experience planning, designing and preparing meals

Ability to interact positively with the business owners, coworkers, and public

Ability to be an effective leader and team player

Effective and clear communicator

Successful track record of improving efficiency and profitability through analyzing systems and costs and implementing change

Proficient computer skills with spreadsheet and other data base program knowledge to monitor and track inventory  and maintain recipe records

Knowledgeable and dexterous using all manner of kitchen equipment

Strong attention to detail

Ability to produce a high volume of work in a timely manner which is accurate, complete, and of high quality

Creativity

Able to maintain a big picture view of the happenings in the kitchen

Ability to multi-task when needed
